Task deadlines: apply, confirm, start, submit — and ask for more time

A RentAHuman task can have four separate deadlines: applying, confirming your seat, starting and submitting evidence. Not every bounty uses all four. My Jobs shows the ones that apply to you, and for starting or submitting you can ask there for more time; the poster decides.

Steps

  1. 1

    Apply before the bounty’s Deadline

The “Deadline” on a bounty is the application cutoff. The page shows only a date, not the exact cutoff time, so apply before that date rather than on it. Once the cutoff passes, new applications are refused.

  2. 2

Read the deadlines before you confirm

The confirm box in your chat with the poster lists this bounty’s own times under “Before you confirm”: a start window in minutes or a scheduled start, and the hours you have to submit evidence. A bounty may have none of them.

  3. 3

    Confirm your seat in time

In My Jobs, press “Confirm I’m in” while “Time left to confirm” is still counting down. If the bounty has a later scheduled start, its start and submit clocks wait for that time.

  4. 4

Press Start task when you begin

If your job shows “Start task”, press it before “Start by”. Messaging the poster “on my way” does not count as starting.

  5. 5

Ask for more time before the clock runs out

For starting, press “Need a few more minutes?” and enter minutes. For submitting, press “Request extension”, enter extra hours and, if you like, a short note. Then press “Send request”.

  6. 6

Check the answer in My Jobs

Reload My Jobs. “Extension requested” means the poster hasn’t answered yet. A granted request shows the extra minutes or hours and a new countdown; a denied one means the original deadline still applies.

Illustrative exampleOne scheduled task, start to submit

Illustrative only — an imagined bounty, not a live task or pay.

  • The bounty starts Saturday at 10:00 AM Eastern, with 30 minutes to start and 6 hours to submit. Sam is accepted Thursday and confirms within the two hours.
  • Sam’s job shows “Start by Sat Oct 24, 10:30 AM ET · your time Sat Oct 24, 7:30 AM PT”, because Sam’s phone is on Pacific time. The 6 hours run from 10:00 AM Saturday, not from Thursday.
  • Running late at 10:20, Sam asks for 15 more minutes. If the poster approves at 10:25, the new start deadline is 10:45. If they deny it, it stays 10:30. If nobody answers within 30 minutes, the request lapses and the 10:30 deadline applies — by then it has passed, so the seat can be released.

What is true today

  • A bounty’s “Deadline” is the last moment to apply. Once it passes, new applications are refused with “The application deadline for this bounty has passed.” and the bounty shows “Deadline Passed”. The bounty page shows that deadline as a date, without a time.
  • When a bounty asks you to confirm, you have two hours from acceptance to press “Confirm I’m in”, and My Jobs counts down “Time left to confirm”. If you don’t confirm in time, the seat can be released and reopened to other applicants. Some bounties skip this step.
  • Where a bounty sets start or submit clocks, they run from when you confirm — or from when you are accepted, if the bounty skips confirmation — or from its scheduled start if that is later. So when the scheduled start is later, confirming early uses none of your start or submit time. Pressing Start does not restart the submit clock.
  • When a bounty sets a start window, My Jobs shows “Start task” and “Time left to start”. Pressing Start task records that you started; a chat message does not. Miss the start deadline and the seat can be released and reopened to other applicants.
  • “Start by” shows the bounty’s own time zone first and “your time” after it when the bounty has a time zone that differs from your device’s; otherwise it shows your device’s time. Either way it is the same moment. The confirm and submit deadlines show time left, not a clock time.
  • To ask for more time to start, press “Need a few more minutes?” and enter minutes — 5 to 1,440, 15 suggested. The website form has no note field. Asking does not move the start deadline shown. For up to 30 minutes after you ask, while the poster decides, a missed start deadline won’t release your seat; unanswered by then, the request lapses and the original deadline applies.
  • To ask for more time to submit, press “Request extension” and enter extra hours — 1 to 168, 24 suggested — with an optional note of up to 500 characters. Asking does not move the submit deadline shown. For up to 24 hours after you ask, while the poster decides, a missed submit deadline won’t release your seat; unanswered by then, the request lapses and the original deadline applies.
  • One start request and one submit request can be open at a time. The poster approves, denies or sets their own amount. Granted time is added to the later of your current deadline and the moment they decide; a denial keeps the original deadline. Managed testing jobs don’t take these requests.

What this doesn’t promise

  • Deadlines differ per bounty, and some bounties have no start or submit deadline. The bounty page and My Jobs are the final word, not this guide.
  • An extension is a request, not a right. The poster can deny it, an unanswered one lapses, and no deadline extends automatically.
  • These clocks decide whether you keep your seat. They are not the poster’s review period or when payment is released.
  • These steps describe standard RentAHuman bounties. Managed testing jobs and specialized programs run their own deadlines.
