Computational Biologist | Transcriptomics, Gene Networks & Cancer Genomics
I am a computational and molecular biologist with 20 years of research experience in transcriptomics, genomics, gene regulation, and cancer biology. I develop algorithms and bioinformatics workflows to extract actionable insights from large-scale bulk and single-cell sequencing datasets, with a particular focus on gene regulatory networks, tumor heterogeneity, molecular vulnerabilities, and disease mechanisms. I work extensively with R, Python, Perl, Bioconductor, high-performance computing, machine learning, RNA-seq, NGS genome and transcriptome analysis, differential expression, co-expression networks, eQTLs, variant analysis, and predictive modeling. I am the author and maintainer of several R/CRAN and Bioconductor packages, including aracne.networks, corto, spathial, and vulcan. As an Associate Professor of Computational Transcriptomics and Bioinformatics, I lead interdisciplinary research projects, teach bioinformatics and functional genomics, and mentor undergraduate, master's, and doctoral researchers. I can support projects involving omics data analysis, reproducible computational pipelines, biological network modeling, cancer and infectious-disease genomics, and interpretation of complex molecular datasets.
Associate Professor of Computational Transcriptomics at University of Bologna (2018 - Present) Research Scientist at Cancer Research UK, Cambridge University (2016 - 2017) Postdoc at Columbia University, New York (2013-2016)
